What's a good reaction time?

For a simple visual stimulus (see green → click), most adults land between 200 and 250 ms. Regular gamers typically sit around 180–220 ms, and professional esports players average roughly 150–170 ms — with the fastest verified performances near 120 ms. Below ~100 ms on a single trial almost always means anticipation, not reaction, which is why serious tests reject those clicks.

Your score is not only your nervous system: it includes your display and input chain. A 60 Hz office monitor can add 20–40 ms of latency that a 240 Hz gaming panel doesn't. Same person, different screen, different number — which is also why comparing scores makes most sense on the same machine, or against a large population like the leaderboard on our full test.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my reaction time worse than the averages?

Part of the score is hardware: display latency, mouse latency and browser scheduling add 20–50 ms before your click even registers. Fatigue, caffeine and time of day also swing results by 10–20 ms. Take five trials and compare your average, not your best.

Can I improve my reaction time?

Raw simple-reaction speed is mostly physiological and improves only slightly with training, but game-relevant reaction improves a lot: recognising patterns earlier, predicting instead of reacting, and reducing hardware latency all shave real milliseconds.

Why are clicks under 100 ms rejected?

Human simple visual reaction has a physiological floor around 100–120 ms. A faster click means you predicted the timing rather than reacted — the full test rejects those trials so scores stay honest.
